Celebrate tradition through art—and bring your own spirit guide to life!
Join us for a hands-on art workshop where we’ll be making papier-mâché alebrijes—vibrant, fantastical creatures inspired by Mexican folk art. These colorful figures, often blending features from multiple animals, are a whimsical and meaningful part of Día de los Muertos traditions.
Alebrijes originated in the imagination of artist Pedro Linares in the 1930s. While not originally tied to Día de los Muertos, they’ve come to be intertwined with the celebration, representing spiritual guides or protective spirits—an imaginative way to connect with those who have passed on.
All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and curiosity!
*this workshop will be for building your alebrije. please also register for October 23 to paint your dried work.
